SWFL Nightlife

Most people that enjoy our corner of Florida do so because it's NOT like Miami and other big east coast cities. However, for those that enjoy the laid back atmosphere ingrained into the South West Florida culture but still would like something fun to do after 10pm, living or vacationing here can be frustrating. But, if you know where to search, there are good times to be had out there. Do Florida Right brings you the some of the best locations in Southwest Florida for those weekday happy hours, weekend late nights, and hazy memories with friends new and old.

Organized from North to South starting in Ft. Myers:

Downtown Ft. Myers - River District

Overall Vibe: Mixed. Everything from night clubs to corner dive bars

Highlights: Firestone, City Tavern, Ford's Garage, Space 39, Spirits of Bacchus

Favorite Bar: Firestone. With 4 floors each offering a different feel, there's something for everyone here. The rooftop bar overlooking the Caloosahatchee is one of a kind in the area. Stop by for a sunset to see what all the fuss is about.

Best time to be there: Music Walk. Every third Friday, the downtown area is roped off and live music acts descend on every other corner. Walking around the streets with drink in hand watching live performances is reminiscent of River Street in Savannah, GA.

Special Events: Art walk. Like music walk, but with art on the first Friday of every month.

A Tip From the Ryan's: Late night pizza reminiscent of Jumbo Slice in Washington D.C. abounds in Downtown Ft. Myers. The best bad decision you'll make all night.

Gulf Coast Town Center

Overall Vibe: College town/families.

Highlights: Keys Piano Bar, Bar Louie, Blu Sushi, Cigar Bar

Favorite Bar: Bar Louie. Plenty of beers to try!

Best time to be there: If the FGCU basketball team ever upsets the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament again.

Special Events:

A Tip From the Ryan's: Every good night at GCTC ends with a hot dog from a street vendor (outside of the Cigar Bar). Yum.

Fort Myers Beach

Overall Vibe: Leftovers from spring break

Highlights: Lani Kai, The Cottage, Nervous Nellies, Smokin' Oyster Brewery (SOBs), The Mermaid, The Beached Whale

Favorite Bar: The Cottage

Best time to be there: Sunday Funday at the Lanai Kai. Who doesn't love booty shaking contests?

Special Events: Beerfoot 7s Beach Rugby Tournament - Every summer near the end of July, 500 rugby players take over Ft. Myers Beach for this tournament. The post tournament bar crawl is nothing short of epic. All events are open to the public.

A Tip From the Ryan's: Outside drinks are not allowed in front of beach bars like Lani Kai or The Cottage, but every good local knows of the 20 foot wide walkway between the two properties where coolers are fair game! Usually pretty crowded though... I'd rather play cornhole at The Cottage and drink their Bloody Mary's through the window.

Coconut Point

Overall Vibe:Family/Older crowd. Classy yet affordable evening.

Highlights: Hurricane Grill and wings, The Grape, Tony Sacco's, Bice, Pagelli's

Favorite Bar: Hurricane Grill and wings. Bring the dog. Mine will probably be there guilting people into petting him. I'll be deciding between one of the 50 wing sauces and rubs.

Best time to be there: Happy hours.

A Tip From the Ryan's: All of Coconut Point is dog friendly. Many stores will actually even let dogs inside. There are even little dog water fountains.

Overall Vibe: Classy, higher end bars. No flip flops if you want to bar hop (Blue Martini won't let you in).

Highlights: Burn, Blue Martini, Taps, The Pub

Favorite Bar: The Pub. Good live music, outdoor seating, and all of the bartenders wear kilts.

Best time to be there: Weekend late nights.

A Tip From the Ryan's: Most of the drink prices at Mercato are downright ridiculous for average folks, but filling up at Blue Martini on half priced martini's (still $7) is practically a bargain. For Mercato.

Downtown Naples

Overall Vibe: Tourist families, expensive drinks

Highlights: Paddy Murphy's, McCabe's, Yabba's, The Dock (8th St. South)

Favorite Bar: Paddy Murphy's - more of a dive bar, it really has no place on 5th Ave. South in Downtown Naples. That's why I love it.

Best time to be there: Sunday morning. Go to The Dock for the bloody mary bar. Eat some brunch, drink some Bloody Mary's, then go walk 5th Ave to the beach. Or,

Special Events:St. Patrick's Day on 5th Ave. South is a blast. Don't miss it!

A Tip From the Ryan's: While it's not really 5th Ave, it's very close. Get on the Naples Bay Water Shuttle and cruise around to some other places to enjoy more Bellinis and Bloody Marys.

Random Spots that draw a crowd

Rusty's - Always a good late night crowd on the weekends, any time of year. Everyone within 10 years of 30 can be found here at one point or another.

South Street - Surprisingly good pizza for a Philly themed bar. Good live music on weekends.

Cadillac Jacks - Country night! Friday nights bring the cowboy boots for some line dancing lessons.
